Why?

I have created this blog to keep track of my postings in the unit 'Promoting Positive Learning Environments". I feel this is important as teaching is an evolving process and in this reflection can provide clarity.

Module A: A Written Post

I have been really looking forward to undertaking this unit since I completed my first prac last semester. Whist out on PE I felt unprepared in handling the complexities of a classroom environment and I am hoping that PPLE will give me some understanding and tools that I can translate into practice!
As for the nine provocations, I find them all intreguing questions that I have constantly asked myself since I began this study. At the moment the one that strikes me is "Am I ready to teach?" As the end of my university program looms closer and closer I am starting to question my own abilities come June and I am offically able to enter the classroom as a Teacher. Will I be able to control the class, instill confidence in my students, negotiate the content of units and handle that student that appears to be unteachable?
Although at moments I feel that I am in no ways ready to hit the teaching world head on I am also a firm believer that teaching is something that comes with practice and exposure. There is no way to perfect from the beginning, instead I hope through hardwork, perseverence and a positive attitude I will be ready to teach!
It wasn't until my college years that I truly fell in love with my subject area 'English' and this I credit to a positive learning environment that exposed me to a unique viewpoint of a subject that I once considered "stuff". I had a great teacher who exposed me to the topic of World Literature and introduced me to some amazing authors. We were not treated like lowly students who knew nothing of the topic, instead we were encouraged to have opinions and to openly discuss everything and anything. It was a very nurturing and supportive environment that still inspires me today.
